TEEN SPIRIT

Font/name
I have chosen the name teen spirit as indie music is all about being independent from the record label. This is much like when you become a teenager and start becoming independent from your parents and even beginning to rebel. The word spirit connotes energy and passion which would be targeted to people who have a real love for indie music. The name also relates to the rock song smells like teen spirit which would intertwine with the indie rock theme and the semi retro rock theme of the magazine. I chose this font because it gave a look of rebellion and it would also catch the eye of teenagers as there are not, many magazines that use a font like this so it will be fresh. It also links with the theme of being independent and not following the crowd.

Purpose of my product
The purpose of my product is to attract more teens into becoming independent and not always following the trend much like indie music being independent.

Genre
My genre is indie. This is also known as independent music.  For example oasis. Oasis signed to independent record label  and released their first album defiantly maybe. Then the following year they released (whats the story) morning glory? which has well known hits such as  wonderful and don't look back in anger. Other bands include blur which are and english rock band from 1998. This band released. Blur and Oasis had a battle this was known as the battle of brit pop. This would interest audiences into indie magazines as they want to know more about the battle. Other bands would include pulp, suede, charlatans, ocean colour scene. In the 90s indie became huge and popular. which then began more and more artists to produce their own music.

Content
In my magazine i would include content such as new music and information about new bands/artists information  new and old for example hozier, arctic monkeys, oasis. My magazine would also include places where indie artists would play for example eventim apollo has hozier playing this week.
Image result for xoyo club londonAnother club is XOYO which is in sure ditch and is an indie rock club in shore ditch. Other clubs like this include borderline, the lexington, the old blue last. This gives older readers such as my tertiary audience an insight into where they can listen to their favourite indie tracks

Target audience
These avatars represents my target audience as we can see they are teenage around 16/17/18 this is who i am aiming my target audience at as this age some teenagers become more rebellious and independent. Which means they can relate to this music. They would be attracted to this magazine as the name is teen spirit which is what they are and due to it being in bold letters it will stand out more and attract their attention. from my avatars we can see they are original from their style and hair which art the most popular at this time but are independent from this system. However i would aim this magazine more towards boys as they are usually more independent and rebellious than girls and majority of girls like to follow the latest trend where as some boys do their own thing. My secondary audience would be 14-15 year olds who would listen to the music but may not be able to go to concerts as they are too young so they may not be as interested in this magazine about who is playing at places. My tertiary audience would be people in their 20s who have a job and through the rebelling stage who are able to get into clubs and concerts because they are over the age limit.

Marketing methods
I would market my product through bus stops as teenagers coming home from school on public transport would notice it and would be attracted to it by the front cover and a short explanation about it. this would mainly attract my secondary audience as when you reach 17 years old you tend to drive around. I could market this towards my primary and tertiary audience by making a billboard ad much like a bus stop advert but when teenagers and young adults drive by they can instantly be attracted to it and find out more. They could find out more by me making a website where it could have information about the magazine, competitions and offers.

legal ethical issues
Some legal issues would include copyright. this is when you are plagiarising someone else work saying it is your own. Another legal issue would be privacy for example if my magazine took a photo of someone and used it without their consent. They could sue the company meaning we loose lots of money. An ethical issue would be no sexual images as its targeted towards teenagers. No using photos without consent as it would breach their privacy. Another ethical issue would be abiding by the laws and not putting anything illegal in it for example drugs and underage drinking even though this magazine encourages rebellion and independence we still ant out audience to abide by laws. If we promote unethical behaviour we can be sued and lose our money.

Distribution methods
My magazine will mainly be distributed through subscription. This means people will pay a price each month for the magazine and it will be delivered to them. Another way my magazine would be distributed would be in local shops such as sainsbury lands the newsagents as when teenagers are coming home sometimes they pop in for an after school snack which then this magazine will catch their eye. I will also have an online version that subscribers can read.

Layout
The layout for the front cover of my magazine will have the title at the top of the page then have a main image and surrounding there will be a bar code, skyline, lead article and a date line. I will be using these as they are key features of a magazine and people will notice it.

Resources
I would need...

  • A model
  • A camera
  • A tripod
  • some instruments
  • lighting
  • a background

Comments

  1. Excellent piece of work, Amber, with effective use of avatars to illustrate your target audiences.

The font style for teen Spirit looks a little plain - was this font as you intended it, or did you have difficulties posting the right font on your blog?
